Description
Presenter: Andrew Susskind, LCSW, SEP, CGP
Based on the theory that addiction often stems from attachment ruptures, this presentation will take a closer look at the reparative factors of long-term group therapy.
Course Description
This interactive workshop will integrate a psycho-educational approach utilizing open discussion and an experiential piece through a demonstration group. We will identify the broken heartedness of developmental trauma and addiction and move toward specific therapeutic interventions in the context of group therapy.
Addictive, compulsive tendencies thrive on isolation, shame and secrecy, and to diminish the stigma, group therapy provides an experience to counterbalance the suffering of the past. Drawing on Somatic Psychology, Interpersonal Neurobiology and Positive Psychology, we will explore how group develops somatic awareness, an opportunity to look at love and attachment through a new lens while establishing greater purpose and direction—all ingredients leading toward fulfilling, intimate relationships. Special attention will be given to the recovery from compulsive sexual behavior as an example of this healing process.

Attendees will:
- Attendees will describe the correlation between trauma, addiction and attachment.
